Mystery Shrouds Konami's '5' Page

At the Game Developers Conference 2009, Hideo Kojima teased everyone with The Next MGS screen with pictures of Raiden. Konami's new teaser page shows a mysterious countdown to something big and eventful coming up in the next two days. With dark clouds that keep flashing, an image of 5 or S appears every few seconds.

The legendary stealth game Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima certainly has something mysterious in his mind. We bet this time Konami is going to put the announcement in stealth mode. The way 1up.com has perceived it; this is an announcement of an announcement about an announcement.



Raiden, which means thunder and lightening, appears to be the hero of this mysterious game. However, NeoGAF is claiming that Konami will run four more countdowns till the E3 conference that starts in June.

Google Sync Comes to Symbian S60 Devices

After releasing the iPhone version of Google Sync, the company has now released its beta version for Series 60 3rd edition devices.

Google Sync will enable you to sync your Google contacts and Google calendars with your phone. What this means for end users is that your calendar and contacts information will be simultaneously "updated" as soon as you make any changes in either of the sources. That is, if you made a new entry in your phone contacts list, the change would be reflected on your Google account, on the web, within minutes.

You will need to install the latest version of Nokia Mail for Exchange application for this to work. That can be downloaded from here. To download the application, go to http://m.google.com/sync from your phone.

Strontium's DDR3 Modules Now in India

Strontium has introduced its DDR3 memory modules for desktop and notebooks in India. Targeted at enthusiasts and gamers, these high speed DDR3 modules promise higher performance at efficient power consumption parameters.

The new DDR3 modules are available in 1333MHz and 1066 MHz frequency speeds in 1GB and 2GB capacities. Strontium would be offering these DDR3 modules for notebooks and desktops at street price of Rs. 1,289 for 1GB and Rs. 2,349 for 2GB with life time warranty through their regular channel partners.

DDR3 memory module at 1.5 Volts consumes 30 percent less power and ensures longer battery life when compared to DDR2 modules running at 1.8 Volts. The 8-bit deep pre-fetch buffer width employed in DDR3 offers higher bandwidth of up to 1600MHz.
Strontium's modules are made from "dual gate" transistors that reduce leakage of current. These DDR3 modules for desktops and notebooks come with self refresh and auto refresh features, better latencies and enhanced low power features - helpful in notebooks.

Smartphone Sales surge despite Gloomy economy

Recently, when Nokia announced its not so enthusiastic Q1 results, it was thought to be a clear indication of how the cellphone industry too has been hit by the global economic slowdown.

In fact, while the overall cell phone sales saw a dip this year, as compared with the same period last year, there seems to be one heartening news for all smartphone buffs and manufacturers out there. IT Research firm Gartner, in its latest report, has revealed that unlike other mobile phone segments, the smartphone segment has seen a growth of 12.7 percent in the Q1 2009. That news alone should provide some respite for manufacturers who were reeling from the dip in sales over last year.

Interestingly, it seems a growing interest in touchscreen smartphones is one of the reasons of the steady growth. And if we are on about touchscreen smartphones, there has to be a mention of the ubiquitous iPhone which has managed to double it market share to 10.8 percent in the smartphone sector in Q1, over the same period a year ago. In sheer numbers, Apple shipped 3.9 million iPhones in the quarter. Even with that kind of growth, Nokia continues to lead the pack as far as the smartphone space is concerned - with a comfortable 41 percent market share. That, however, is a dip of 2 percent over the past year. RIM (Research In Motion) and Apple come in at second and third places, bagging 20 percent and 10 percent of the pie respectively.

As for the overall picture of the mobile phone sector, the sale of 269 million cellphones in Q1 2009 is down by almost 10 percent as compared with the same period last year. Amongst all the major manufacturers, Samsung seems to be in an enjoying an enviable position, with the company managing to increase its overall cellphone market share to 19.1 percent and ending up just behind Nokia, which leads the global mobile phone market. That translates to a very decent 5 percent growth over the same period last year. LG follows suit after Samsung with Motorola and Sony Ericsson at the fourth and fifth places respectively.
